Congratulations to Derek Jeter

On a damp dreary night when the decision to play baseball seemed to be pushing it, Yankee shortstop and captain, Derek Jeter broke Lou Gehrig's mark for the most hits by a career New York Yankee en route to surely hitting well over 3,000 in his career and then enshrinement with his number retired in monument park and a trip to Cooperstown joining figures like Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Joe Dimagio, Mickey Mantle, and all the other Yankees legends.

Perhaps there is some small irony he would accomplish this feat against the Baltimore Orioles, Cal Ripken's former team, a player Jeter emulates with such professionalism. Like Ripken, Jeter is a model citizen in the sport who leads by example who shows up to work every day, approaches the game with respect, demonstrates the right work habits, and knows at heart baseball is a kid's game where playing every day should be fun.

Is it any wonder Derek Jeter is perhaps the most respected player in the game today?
