Sprint Cup 2010: Race 8 -- The Texas Two Step

Happy days are back at Stewart Haas with Ryan Newman winning his first race for the team last week, and things look bright at Texas with Tony Stewart sitting on the pole. Newman starts tenth. Sam Hornish Jr. has a great starting position helping show he’s coming into his own in Sprint Cup this year in 2nd. All in all, the top 12 reveal pretty typical company.

1. Tony Stewart, Chevy
2. Sam Hornish, Jr, Dodge
3. Greg Biffle, Ford
4. Jimmie Johnson, Chevy
5. Kasey Kahne, Ford
6. Jeff Burton, Chevy
7. Kyle Busch, Toyota
8. Clint Bowyer, Chevy
9. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Chevy
10. Ryan Newman, Chevy
11. Kurt Busch, Dodge
12. Jeff Gordon, Chevy

Once again, the quitters and sitters are taking up starting positions worthy of teams intending to compete in tomorrow’s race with Joe Nemechek in 22nd and Dave Blaney in 24th. David Stremme #26, Terry Cook #46, and Johnny Sauter #36 failed to qualify. One has to wonder what’s going on with the #26 Ford team. This team was spun off from the Rausch garage no longer allowed to carry five full-time rides. With Roush equipment and crew chief Frank Stoddard, whether it’s been with David Stremme or Boris Said, this team is going nowhere performing horribly in races if they qualify at all.

Keyed-Up Motorsports, owned by Raymond Key, will reduce its schedule for its #90 team, to ten races rather than start and park while it attempts to find sponsors. Crew Chief, Doug Richert will stay on board.

The big story to watch will be how cars will perform on their third race, the first on a 1 ½ mile track with a conventional spoiler. Texas shows some of the fastest racing in NASCAR where restrictor plates aren’t used.
