Beauty contests by their very nature are rather creepy affairs. They market young ladies as some kind of priceless commodity judged in about the same manner as show dogs in the Westminster dog shows. While Miss America maintains a squeaky clean image and the girls get scholarships, Miss USA, owned and operated by Donald Trump was originated by a bathing suit company. Last year, a huge scandal broke loose after Miss California, Carrie Prejean, a staunch traditional fundamentalist Christian answered a loaded question why she opposed homosexual marriage. Her answer created an immediate media firestorm that polarized pro and anti homosexual forces with the media damning Prejean for what they would view as her prejudiced archaic views while conservative talk show hosts made her their darling.

Controversy brings attention. Nobody appreciates that better than "the Donald." However, from a promotion standpoint, it's better to create the controversy than be subjected to it, so to make sure the 2010 pageant could rival the 2009 contest, they've developed a campaign which surely will create notice. In advance of the contest, all the contestants were dressed in trashy lingerie and mutilated with slutty looking makeup posing provocatively in bold black and white photos that look like something out of Penthouse magazine. Perhaps the notion was that would drive out any contestants like Prejean who might be offended to be painted up like a common whore.

This is media exploitation at its finest. Miss America is no longer on network TV. You can bet NBC is applauding their ratings will be higher thanks to the cheesy photo shoot of anxious young girls attempting to make a name for themselves.

While we usually think actions on behalf of many women's advocacy groups are more about advancing idiotic left wing politics than truly looking out for women, we would welcome an outcry on this. Any beautiful woman who would seek to promote herself on the basis of her abilities and intellect could surely see this as a setback to crumbling the glass ceiling.

Warren Sapp: Domestic Battery Charges

Okay, innocent until convicted but...

Former super star defensive tackle, Warren Sapp, a current NFL Network analyst, stands charged with domestic battery in South Florida. He will not participate in today's broadcasts. While the story emerges, this is a tale that has become all too familiar with the NFL where spousal and girlfriend abuse has become sadly common place. Whether it is a reflection of some players' background or there is something about the intense aggressive mindset one needs to play football, the behavior is absolutely unacceptable and cannot be condoned nor can excuses be offered to soften the cruel barbaric behavior it represents.

The NFL, always public relations and image conscious, must get out in front of this issue and make sure current players are dealt with promptly and firmly when episodes arise. Such conduct can never be swept under the carpet. Likewise, the legal system must prosecute these cases in a firm, deliberate manner to make sure the public sees no special favor granted men of such high public visibility.

This is unacceptable and hateful conduct, period. Given Warren Sapp's greater public stature, his case is especially disturbing. How his case is handled should be carefully developed to serve as a model for future episodes and provide a powerful deterrent to make sure these horrible crimes are not so common place in the nation's favorite sport.

Erin Andrews: Punished Like So Many Women Who Are Smart and Successful but Also Incredibly Gorgeous

There is a price to pay for a woman being highly successful in her profession and also being strikingly beautiful, ask ESPN reporter, Erin Andrews, who recently suffered humiliation from a video of her undressed circulated around the Internet apparently taken through a hotel room door peephole.

What was done to Ms. Andrews was dead wrong, period. It’s not funny. The person responsible should be held legally responsible for his actions if criminal laws apply. If not, certainly Ms. Andrews would be fully justified to pursue civil charges.

The reaction to this event is disturbing. Just as the stereotypes persist that somehow rape victims invite their attack, a strong current of commentary is circulating that somehow holds Ms. Andrews responsible for her misfortune. Try to make sense out of this. A woman required to travel frequently by the nature of her job and thus stays in hotels often does not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in a hotel room?

That notion is ridiculous. Popular women are frequently subject to stalkers, sex perverts, and sleazy opportunists who could make a quick buck trading on embarrassing or suggestive photos and videos of them.

Enter Christine Brennan, an experienced sports journalist, quite normal and professional looking one who would never be the subject of sleazoid fascination the way Ms. Andrews has been. Her comment on Erin Andrew’s plight would seem to further the stereotype – the sense that beauty deserves its consequence.

"She doesn't deserve what happened to her, but part of the shtick, seems to me, is being a little bit out there in a way that then are you encouraging the complete nutcase to drill a hole in a room.”

"Erin [Andrews] did not deserve this. I want to make that crystal clear. But she's got to be smarter and better."

The truth is both woman are damned good at what they do but they’ve chosen their path in different ways and each one has different abilities.

Sports journalism is an entertainment business. It’s all about getting ratings and creating widespread name recognition. Ms. Andrews knows her stuff and knows how to play up to her audience, that all important male audience 18-35 to which much sports advertising is directed – not that she shouldn’t be appealing to other demographics as well.

The only way any pictures that present Ms. Andrews in a manner she does not chose to be seen are ones from her functioning in a public capacity or ones she specifically approves for marketing purposes. How bad is it? Do a Google image search for Erin Andrews and see how many photos are amateur exploitation pictures or others edited to emphasize her anatomy.

The creeps are out there. Maybe Christine Brennan might not be taken advantage of the same way Erin Andrews has but there are plenty of nutcases capable of all kinds of wicked adventure.

Honor Killing In Buffalo?

couple, the horrors of Islamic subjugation of women
stirred viciously leading to violent murder.

Why the silence? This is the kind of story that chills the compassionate human being to the bone, but these stories don’t get much attention in the main stream media who avoid any mention of distasteful aspects of some factions of Islamic culture, but the phenomenon of “honor killing” is the ultimate display of Muslem brutal oppression and contempt for women grotesquely murdered for simply showing the smallest signs of independence that western women take for granted.

This tragedy took place in Buffalo, New York. Aasiya Hassan filed for divorce from her husband alleging domestic abuse. Police issued a protective order to bar her television producer, husband from the family home in Orchard Park or having any contact with his estranged fearful spouse.

Muzzammil Hassan was an aspiring television producer who provided content for major networks who founded Bridges TV in 2004 in an effort to provide a broadcast outlet for American Muslims to counter the negative stereotypes he alleged the broader culture has toward Islamic culture. Mr. Hassan, 44, is an immigrant from Pakistan married eight years to Aasiya raising two children 4 and 6 and two older children from his previous marriage.

Ms. Hassan’s mutilated body was found on the office floor of the Orchard Park television station where Mr. Hassan worked.

Where is the widespread major network coverage of this shocking tragedy and public outrage? Given the huge numbers of Moslems world wide and the hateful treatment of women throughout the Islamic world, does this issue not deserve total exposure and world wide efforts to target this abuse and oppression on every level possible?

In a world where women’s rights have made tremendous advancements through out the Western world and civilized nations speak out about human rights tragedies worldwide, the horrors of sexual abuse against women as best exemplified by honor killings where males justify the brutal murder of women who fail to comply to their total control in even the most subtle ways possibly not wearing the appropriate oppressive Islamic garb in the established ways or asserting any degree of personal independence from attempting to back out of prearranged marriages or even showing the slightest yearning to embrace any aspect of western culture. In western culture we might hear our women complain sarcastically, wearing pantyhose and high heels is killing them. In the Islamic world, women could be killed for daring to wear them.

Given the United States and western culture in general is the target of a declared cultural war by radical factions of Islam and instances of the barbaric rites of honor culture are defiantly practiced in the midst of our freedom loving culture, all Americans should attempt to learn the truth about Islam but such pursuits are not easy. So much information at hand about the ways of Islam have been sanitized where any criticism of their culture falls victim to the powers of overreaching and dishonest political correctness.

Simply learning the history of the historical figure of Mohammed should lead any rational person to see that he is much better suited for being included in the company of murderous tyrants like Ghengis Khan, Tamerlane, Attila the Hun and Adolph Hitler surely not in the same revered sacred status of Jesus Christ and Buddha. The Old and New Testaments warn of false prophets. So who is Mohammed?

The corrupt teaching of Islam focusing on its most vicious elements has cruel human consequences. Terrorists bombers scream “Allah is great” as they press the button to kill themselves to kill as many others as possible. Those following the news carefully will see examples time and time again of honor killings becoming more frequent in Western society all the time as the Islamic population becomes more deeply engrained.

Outrage and contempt for such behavior is justified and the expression of condemnation of such extreme sexist horrors must be heard loud and clear.

How much evidence does the world need that the heart of Islam is EVIL. Let's add to that stupid, sexist, demeaning, cruel, and absolutely cruel. For fear of the seductive power of the feminine eye, Saudi women should wear a full veil, or nigab, that reveals only one eye.

Horror of horror to these sexist pig oppressors, revealing both eyes encourages (GASP) women to wear (HORRORS OF HORRORS) eye makeup thus looking (OH MY GOD, ALLAH) more seductive! Yes, these are the fears expressed by Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan. While this edict has not yet be enacted, it shows what's a big part of the mainstream of thinking in the Islamic world, Saudi Arabia being one of the most severe.

It's time for us as westerners, part of the Judeo-Christian heritage, to recognize this kind of hateful behavior for what it is and speak out against it. Enough of the politically correct nonsense about "being tolerant of cultural differences." It sure would be boring if everybody in the world did things the same way, but the constant dictatorial behavior making women at best second class humans but much more like a simple commodity subject to the male culture's whims is unacceptable and must be condemned, period.

Western society has surely had its moments of shame and historically has done some shameful things to its women and minorities, but we have the capacity to change, to grow, and strive to be better. In most western nations women can aspire to be anything they wish. On personal appearance, we accept all kinds of fashion, styles of dress and personal preference. The bottom line is we take for granted it's a woman's responsibility to chose how she wants to look. We still have some room for growth as we've seen with a woman candidate for President and now an official nominee for Vice President, both Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin have been subjected to snarky comments and suggestions that would never be applied to their male counterparts. Chances are, their presence in the national spotlight will help us overcome that kind of sexism to.

In the west, we progress. In the Islamic world....more oppression.

Here we go again: the numbers for Pakistan alone are mind-blowing. The issue of Honor Killing rises up again, but get this in Pakistan, there have been 174 women reported as murdered for the sake of honor, 270 in 2006, and in 2007, 280 killings. So far in 2008, the body count stands at 1o7 reported murders. Pakistan is a rather schizoid Islamic nation. Some parts of Pakistani society are quite modern as they freely elected a female Prime Minister, Benizir Bhutto. They've assimilated much of the common law and civility of their former British occupiers. Yet, in parts of some urban areas and the moutainous frontier that separates Pakistan is some of the most dangerous Islamic property in the world. Not only is it likely that Bin Ladin is hiding out in that mountain frontier, Pakistan is the only Islamic nuclear power and their government is in transition from Pervez Musharraf to the party once lead by Bhuto before she was assassinated by terrorists. Further, Pakistan headquarters many of the madrasahs that are the training centers for the terrorists of tomorrow. There is a direct pipeline from Pakistan to European capitals, particularly Great Britain, where angry Muslims flee to spread their murderous and hateful lifestyles through out the civil domain of the west.

We have recently documented the phenomenon of honor killings, pure wickedness using the veil of a religion because female family members have not done the bidding of males in their family. Many are ones where young Moslem women refuse to accept prearranged marriages or attempt to escape abusive relationship.

The concept of family, its shared values, and in a sense American family honor comes into focus as the country learns more about Republican vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, dealing with the pregnancy, out of wedlock, of her seventeen year old daughter. Such behavior could earn her a death sentense in the Islamic world.

The civilized, moral world is challenged by the absolute evil under the banner of the Islamic faith. How does the struggle to liberate people from a murderous, oppressive, and monolithic belief system differ going after the heart of radical Islam as opposed to Communism, the German National Socialist Movement (NAZI's), or increasingly more totalitarian conduct of the Russian Government executed by Vladimir Putin? Surely, calling one movement a religion and another a government or political party makes no difference to the misfortunate who are at the wrong end of the gun of these horrible evil forces. Infiltrating the Islamic world is a daunting task for those who accept such a challenge will be executed if suspected. The Radical Islamic operatives have the idea that when their warped sense of justice is to be dealt out it's better to kill them all and let God sort out who spends eternity in Allah's supreme after life.

Pakistan is a country on the brink. Few places in that part of the world have as many advanced and modern practices in place, but there are few places where radicals are able to consolidate their wickedness to such benefit. Given Pakistan's intersection with the Great British empire, the English language is widely spoken making Pakistan the highest order of the Madrasah movement where American, English, and Canadian students of Islam go to learn the finer points of the words of the false prophet and his murderous faith.
