T. Boone Pickens

Who is this guy, T. Boone Pickens? Do we honestly know?

In the soundbyte world of name recognition, PR and exposure, T. Boone Pickens is an energy expert. Why? Because he says he is. He's spent a lot of money to tell you just that. Forbes Magazine ranks him as the 117th richest man in America. He's given over $700 to charity.

Side note, $700 million to charity! How can we not get outraged when we hear the Radical Left and Media Whores who keep criticizing the "greedy" rich and attempt to stereotype all of corporate America when time after time, the wealthy from the Liberal world, the Johnny Reid Edwards types who speak out in such a way but their own financial habits and lifestyles show they are, in-fact, the real purveyors of the kind of greed they use every rhetorical weapon to defame.

Just about everything there is to be found about T. Boone Pickens makes him look like a very impressive guy from the wealthy Oklahoma oil fields. His success in business and his contributions to charity especially Oklahoma State University and a wide variety of humanitarean and intelligent political causes is highly worthy of praise. He sure spoke with his checkbook to help tip the United States off to John Kerry's "swift boat" mythology.
xx
There's just something a little curious about how all of a sudden out of nowhere, we all know his name and his alternative energy plan is being held up as some kind of blueprint against which other plans should be assessed.
xxx
How did this happen? He spent lots of wealth on television exposure to introduce himself and his plan. We've seen him on the grounds of both the Democratic and Republican conventions where network reporters were quick to give him a few minutes of their valuable airtime.
xx
Is his plan a good one? We don't know. It needs to be thoughtfully analyzed and discussed. However, how much of this plan is truly a great national blueprint for eliminating our dependence on imported energy? He is currently Chairman of BP Capital Management. While I'll give BP Capital the benefit of the doubt that they are an effectively run Investment Company which specializes in Energy Futures.

If he's the kind of world class Financier and Chairman that he has become through his many years of great work in this profession, then the T. Boone Pickens plan must first be what's best for the company that depends on his judgment and leadership. Is that good or bad for America? The Devil's in the details.

He seems to be the kind of person corporate America depends on to keep our companies the best above all international competition. To annoint him as a legitimate public figure who is more than this still is an open book.
