And Then There Was One! or And Now There Are Three?

Hey, So After Bristol It Was All About Kyle and Carl, Guess What?
The Chase for the Chase will be determined next Saturday night at Richmond. However, as race fans look foward to the last ten races, while all talk has been about the Kyle and Carl show who have 14 wins between them, don't look now but last year's champ, Jimmie Johnson, is showing his muscle, smoking the field in Fontana, and given his ability to dominate when the money's on the line, it has to be a three car slate for top honors.

On the other end, Denny Hamlin's third place finish helped nail down his spot in the chase, while Clint Bowyer in twelth and David Ragan in thirteenth just seventeen points below shows there's still hot competition to make the Chase. Kasey Kahne hovers twenty seven points behind Ragan.

Easy enough? Not quite, they're moving on to Richmond where lots of bump and grind can collect racers in the wrong place at the wrong time, an early accident could ruin the hopes of some higher ups. However, the real focus should be on Bowyer, Ragan, and Kahne. Kahne is one of those guys who can come through with a little magic at just the right time but is counting on two drivers to faulter. Bowyer's lead and more experience should make him the favorite to lock in the last chase spot.

In the failure to live up to expectations, fans have to wonder what's going on with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, and Jeff Gordon who are limping in to the chase, good enough to get there, but hardly showing much life to show they will have much to show there. Between the three of them, one victory, Earnhardt, who won the June race in Michigan. Earnhardt is surely racing much better than last year, but mistakes, miscues, and poor communication have squandered some great opportunities.

When fans look at the potential top 12 who could be locked in the chase next Saturday night, it's hard to imagine anyone except for Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, or Jimmie Johnson won't be the big champ at Homestead in November.
