NCAA Football: Games We Like This Week!

I I wish they all could be "California Girls!" The USC Cheerleaders #1, oh yeah!!!
Four weeks into the season, College Football calms down just a little after the big USC/Ohio State showdown which further established USC's #1 reputation. Next week, conference rivalries heat up.
A Gripe!
The Upper Chesapeake area, Baltimore and Washington, is hardly a hotbed of Division I college football. We have the University of Maryland who struggles to find consistent respectability after years of mediocrity until Ralph Friedgen. The Terps hosts Eastern Michigan this weekend before reality sets in when they will face their ACC rivals. MEanwhile, the annual big event for "The Land of Pleasant Living" has to be the Army-Navy game. Navy's been hot the last few seasons including a win for one of the rare games outside Philadelphia played right here in Baltimore. In days past in the historic days of the Black colleges, Morgan State played for much national recognition surpassed by Eddie Robinson's legendary program at Grambling. What's left in Charm City and the Nation's Capital? Towson, George Mason? Sean Landetta, the premier punter of the NFL from the 1990's into the 2000's is a Towson alum. Dave Meggett played for Morgan then Towson. Get the picture? This is lacrosse and hoops country, not pigskins. So we look to the south for our fun. There's plenty this weekend.

The Action!!!
x
West Virginia #21 (-3) at Colorado
Colorado will hold off West Virginia. Welcome to some real mountains, boys!
x
Virginia Tech at North Carolina (-3)
This one goes to the visitor. Frank Beamer's squad is still the defending champ in this developing ACC rivalry. If Carolina wins this one, they're for real.
x
Wake Forest #18 at Florida #24 (-4)
This is a battle of the old guard, Florida State, against the up-and-coming, Wake Forest. It would be a delight to see the Deamon Deacons visit Seminole Country and come away with the win, but there's just too much stacked against them. Florida State will win by at least a touchdown.
x
LSU #6 (-3) at Auburn #10
The SEC wastes no time putting two of its hottest teams from the deep deep South in this battle. LSU must overcome the hostile Tigers' crowd and keep its running game intact in its pursuit of a National Championship seed. Meanwhile, at #10, what does it mean should Auburn win? Would that put them in the title picture? Don't worry about it. We won't find out. This one goes to LSU.
x
Florida #4 (-7 1/2) at Tennessee
Lurking in the background of the SEC elite stands the Tennessee Volunteers. For all the top-ranked SEC teams in the Conference, five teams in the top 25, Tennessee is not not a team to be taken lightly. Were this game played in Tennessee, we might see an upset in the makings, but this game is in Gainesville, end of story.

Just another good old week in college football where the beer's always cold and the cheerleaders are always hot!!!
