Baltimore Homicides: Early 2011 Report

As of this date, April 8, 2011, 48 people have been murdered in Baltimore City, 47 of them, Black (three females, 44 males) and one White male run over by a truck. Is it not obvious that the failing of Baltimore City Public Schools has made the "education" process little more than an apprenticeship for murder?

Those who live in the neighborhoods where the violence exists must feel like disposable citizens. At times, being shut in their houses to avoid the violence outside, they see the body bags and hear the frantic crying of another mother whose son is gone. In the land of opportunity the culture of murder and culture of despair live side-by-side. Some are blameless. some are perpetrators. Clearly, society's institutions are failing horribly starting with schools that don't educate, discipline or prepare.

As long as these murders happen in someone else's neighborhood and God forbid, avoid the downtown hot-spots: Mt. Vernon Square, the Inner Harbor, Federal Hill, Fells Point, Canton, Guilford, Homewood, Mt. Washington, and Little Italy, they might as well be in Los Angeles. No new social programs, no increased spending, no "crackdowns" will accomplish ANYTHING until values change. Those outside of the killing zone must accept that every life matters. In the killing zone, residents must stop seeing the police as their enemies. They must demand their streets belong to them not the hoodlums. From a child's earliest entry into society's systems, starting with pre-school and ratcheting up during school, productive values must be taught and practiced. Kids need positive roll models, hope, and clear expectations. That it's okay to skip school, steal, take drugs, bully others, and hang out in gangs must be countered with REAL options. Justice must be fair, immediate, and deserving.

Warm weather is coming. The homicides per week will be going up soon. While the murder rate is down significantly from over 300 a year and will remain so at this year's pace, how many other subdivisions in Maryland will come close to the number of killings in Baltimore by year's end. Right now, the year is just a little over finished its first quarter.

How often do we hear guns kill?  The truth is the decades of excuses and inaction are far more lethal.

Trump: YOU'RE FIRED -- GO AWAY!!!

HOT NEWS: Hawaiian appeals court denies “Birther’s” suit. By virtue of Hawaiian law (which is similar to most states’ policies) there was no compelling reason to grant the request. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is sending his goons to try to take a look.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110407/ap_on_re_us/us_obama_birth_certificate

Trump bulldozed Meredith Viera on NBC's Today Show, the same network that broadcasts his Apprentice self-promotion program absolutely over running the NBC host with his overwhelming intimidating presence.

DONALD TRUMP: I am saying I want to see the birth certificate. It's very simple. I want to see the birth certificate. How come his own family doesn't know which hospital he was born in? How come-- forget about birth certificates. Let's say there's no birth certificate. How come in the hospital itself, okay? This is one of the...in the hospital itself, there's no records of his birth. In other words, it doesn't say how much they paid, where is the doctor, here's your room bill. You know, all the

MEREDITH VIEIRA: You've been privy to all of this to know this?

DONALD TRUMP: Well, I have people that actually have been studying it and they cannot believe what they're talking.

MEREDITH VIEIRA: You have people now out there searching-- I mean, in Hawaii?

DONALD TRUMP: Absolutely. And they cannot believe what they're finding. And I'm serious--

TRUMP IS NOTHING ELSE IF NOT A BLOWHARD, A POMPOUS ASS, AND A BLOOTER.

Yo Donald,
,

YOU’RE FIRED. Nobody invited you to the party. You and your posse crashed the gates. Go play with George Soros and see if you guys and bankrupt each other for the good of mankind.

We might just be talking to a wall with some conservatives whose rage and hatred destroys their judgment and objectivity. An internet poll of Fox viewers, voted 86 to 14 percent that it's smart politics for for Trump to highlight Obama's birth certificate.

Okay, the viewers who surf the Fox Life website are probably pretty hardcore conservatives not just day-to-day viewers, but this issue strikes a cord with  some and it is one that will lead to no good consequences for anyone.
Does it seem to fellow, when the Republicans score a huge triumph, soon thereafter something happens that destroys them? In 1972, Nixon won by a huge landslide. Two years later, he was gone – WATERGATE.

Reagan was the one Republican who truly did things right but beneath him, why couldn’t the Republicans in congress get anywhere?

George H.W. Bush declared “No new taxes.” We saw what happened with that.

Newt Gingerich and his guys swept into congress with the Contract with America. Soon, Clinton was playing them like a fiddle. They balanced the budget and Clinton got the credit. Then they did the ultimate act of self-destruction pursuing impeachment of Clinton for getting his on the job blow jobs and the little blue dress. The Republicans could have held that over his head and whacked him, but they pursued inflation knowing the Senate would not support them and viciously divided the nation in so doing.

By the time ol’ Dubya became President and promised a new civility, the congressional Republicans had become almost that which they were elected to replace, a bunch of self-serving entrenched, special interest catering fat cats who spent like there was no tomorrow. Claiming to be the moral party and that morality mattered, how many of them got caught with their pants down?

In 2008 after taking an ass whooping in 2006 bringing in the reign of terror of Reid and Pelosi, they nominated an aged backstabber who sold them out in many a crucial moment including teaming up with Wisconsin Senator Feinstein creating an absolutely pro-Democrat finance bill, John McCain, who then nominated a thoroughly mindless inexperienced shrill fluff brain, Sarah Palin, as VP, setting the stage for the election of the most radical, communist, socialist, and liberation theology influenced inexperienced figures to win the White House in Barack Obama.

After enduring a thorough whipping in the 2008 election, the Democrats sewed the seeds for Republican resurgence seizing control of General Motors, Chrysler, and the nation’s health care system as radicals popped up like flowers in May like Van Jones, Valarie Harper and a host of Chicago political machine operatives. They were poised to retake both houses of congress, but thanks to Sarah Palin’s involvement in some key Senate races, what would have been sure Republican gains in Nevada and Delaware, the intellectually challenged dingbats she endorsed won. Nevertheless, the turnover in the House was impressive. After the 2010 election, they were poised to march on and create living hell for the Democrats hand-cuffing the Obama administration.

Somehow assertiveness and forceful dedication to the issues seemed to give way to personality issues, but regardless of that, seeing figures like Sarah Palin shaping up as possible nominees for the 2012 Presidential nomination were bad enough to make losing their recent gains a true reality, then comes a long Donald Trump spewing a lot of hot-tempered knee jerk inflammatory right wing flamethrower talk show issues introducing it all surrounding the most nothing issue of nothing issues in ages, whether or not a birth certificate can be produced proving Barack Obama is a legitimate US citizen.

Suddenly the Democrats have exactly what that want, tangible proof the Republicans are a bunch of yokel racists. While many Republicans are way too smart to engage in such stupidity ad John Boehner did on “Meet the Press” despite substantial goading by left wing attack dog host, David Gregory. Now enter Donald Trump, the bully’s bully, the manic master of self-promotion making the birth certificate issue his rallying point indicting he might run for President. In using the TV talk show circuit as his platform, he’s continued to “trump up” the “birther” issue while making outrageous claims how he’d play tough with everyone else in the world or who would hold a position contrary to “The Donald” basically pounding his chest screaming “my way or the highway” and inviting anyone who’d dare question him to kiss his butt. Now the Trumpster is sending investigators to Hawaii to attempt to determine if a birth certificate exists. On has to feel Barack Obama couldn’t be delighted more. As horrible as things looked for him, with Sarah Palin and now Donald Trump diverting attention from the serious Republicans who are working hard to unravel his policies giving the media and his supporters tons of raw red meat to portray the Republicans as a bunch of racist rubes, Obama can surely see opposition amounting to far more hot air than substance.

Muzzling Trump will be no easy task. There is no charismatic front running candidate for the 2012 nomination…Chris Christie and Mark Rubio aren’t ready yet. Some could ultimately prevail on the issues, are being drowned out by two of the most polarizing shrill showboats getting all the media’s attention.

If Barack Obama is smiling more recently, maybe he envisions running against a Trump/Palin ticket. That could make the landslides the Republicans enjoyed 1972 and 1984 look tiny by comparision.

Wake up conservatives. Your prompt destruction is appearing on a television program somewhere tonight. It’s time for reason and focus to prevail.

Glenn Beck -- Show Cancelled

Finally, the little turd will be going goodbye and when that day comes, it won't come a day too soon.  Has anyone ever seen such a thoroughly rotten human being, a person with such obvious serious personality defects, possibly mental illness or at least the product of a life of terrible decision making -- drugs, alcohol, and some sense that he's now on some kind of message from God. Looking for any redeeming qualities for the scary little man are hard to find unless one appreciates he provides an outlet for the video sellers to market, "Little Darling"  the works of Shirley Temple and a bunch of gold merchants including one fronted by J. Gordon Liddy.

As if he's not creepy enough, he has his camera guy pan in unbelievably up close so the rotten creep is right in your face. Beck's such a true asshole, there's just something about him that would make even a gentleman want to take Beck's glasses, stick them in his mouth, and then pound him with a powerful upper cut to the jaw. He wears the "hit me" sign well.

Every day it's the same old stuff -- something terrible is about to happen any day now. All the bad guys from radical Islam to socialists, communists, labor unions are all in cahoots together waiting for the right moment which might have already happened. George Soros is the arch villain who Beck makes look capable of simply using his wealth to buy the world and somehow a little shit of a black communist radical, Van Jones, who was known only to the extreme left academic elite circles were it not for Barack Obama appointing him Green Czar, is some highly powerful leader of a communist insurrection. Well, George Soros is a big danger, but the paranoid rantings of talk show nuts like Beck enhance his notoriety far more than Soros deserves.  Van Jones is a would be nobody, but thanks to Beck harping on him on a nightly basis has now made Jones a far bigger phenomenon that he ever could have dreamt of being without Beck.

Beck has almost single handedly destroyed the credibility of Fox News. Always under attack for presenting the conservative viewpoint, Beck provides Fox's critics a "see there...see this is what they're all about."  For all the quality people like Brit Hume, Chris Wallace, John Roberts, Carl Cameron, and Catherine Herridge among others are all top rate pros of the highest standard, but when one appears in a segment on Beck's trash show, they are at least complicit in supporting whatever the topic du jour is. Beck is a master of taking things out of context and twisting them into supporting his warped notions.

So in his departure, we wish him nothing but the worst and hope he will be held to account for everything he's distorted, misrepresented, or created irrational fear about. May the people he's misrepresented and lied about get their pound of flesh as worthy justice is always a good thing.

This is a sick man who has no place on mature media. Here's hoping the remaining radio stations who carry him see the wisdom of pulling the plug.

Meanwhile, Fox has a real mission ahead of them to restore their credibility and distance themselves as far from this surly little cretin as they possibly can.

The Republicans want Harry Reid out as Senate Majority Leader and who can blame them. There’s no polite way to put it, Harry Reid is an asshole. Yes, we throw around nasty insults way too casually and too frequently these days, but each one defines a certain archetypal personality. Harry Reid is a world class asshole. Assholes make the worst kind of leaders. They’re petty, joyless, evoke no enthusiasm or passion. They’re whiny, inflexible, and totally lacking in whit or personality. They stick by their guns and deal with opposition and adversity in the smallest minded and begrudging way. Their very presence has a way of keeping everybody at each other’s throats. Those on his side are constantly on the defensive and often in emulating their boss try to out-asshole the big asshole. Hello Dick Durbin. He’s right up there on the asshole scale. Then there’s Chuckles Schumer who being an asshole is so second nature, he aspires to much worse labels of depravity – as in total ass, prick, shyster, pompous idiot….Chuckles is, well, think of being a kid spelling out words with Alphabits cereal or Alphabet soup, only instead of letters, you’re using whole words – those seven words George Carlin said could never be used on television.

Okay, so the Republicans want Harry Reid out. They missed their golden chance last November when Sarah Palin came to town in Nevada, trumped up a lot of support for a feeble like-minded windbag rather than any of several figures who could have whipped only Harry’s ass hemorrhoids and all graciously retiring him from brow-beating and demeaning the whole nation through his position on Capitol Hill. Now, 85 have signed a petition to have Harry Reid resign. They were particularly offended when Reid whined allowed how awful it would be that if the Republican budget cuts went through that would be the end of one of Reid’s pet projects, a nice big fat Federal grant to support “Cowboy Poetry.” Reid made it sound like the Republicans were criminalizing the corny custom. This is how assholes do things – lie and whine. In truth, they simply felt it wasn’t worth a financially strapped Federal government paying for. Well, yippee-tie-one-on!!!

If their dream came true, then what? Dick Durbin—how would he make things any better? Take all of Reid’s bad qualities and add pompous and self-righteous to the “n-th” degree. Then there’s old Chucky, yep, Chuckles Schumer – a vicious pit bull of an attack dog, a lying cut-throat, an Ivy League educated fool whose factual gaffes would suggest an IQ more in line with Sarah Palin’s than what’s expected in the rarified elite domain of Harvard, Yale and Princeton.

Do the Republicans really want a good Democrat in charge – someone who’d make them look good and able to accomplish things? They really want someone who’s a pushover and there are very few of them in today’s Democratic Party. They’re so pumped up with their insane ideology, class warfare nonsense, and sense of entitlement – they’ll fight to the death with the notion that if they can save one lab rat from tooth decay, the whole fight was worthwhile.

The Republicans need to worry about themselves. They need to do the right things. They’ve got to get their message out and be ready to clobber the Democrats in the next election. Harry Reid is a fine useful idiot. How much mileage can be gained from having their top dog saying “no” to budget reform for the sake of “Cowboy Poetry?”

Harry Reid can make any reasonable man itch as if infected with a bad case of poison ivy, but they must treasure just what a uniquely qualified character Harry Reid truly is. Could the Democrats parade a more detestable, easy to despise person (oops – remember this is just the Senate – there’s Nancy Pelosi) Sorry, the guy is the poster child for Democratic Party obstructionism, small-minded thinking, and special interest support.

To the 85 signers of the petition, know a good thing when you have one. Harry Reid is in self-destruct mode. Let the old coot self-destruct on his own. His ass-holiness will take care of itself.

Sprint Cup 2011: Race 6 -- Martinsville Results

NASCAR SCAB BOUNTY -- Money paid to freeloader teams refusing to make necessary investment to participate in race. Call it START AND PARK or Sprint Cup Welfare fraud...
$1,759,382.00

Another fabulous closely contested finish....
NASCAR conspiracy theorists must be feeling lonely after completing on Goody’s Fast Relief 500 in Martinsville. The setup was there. Dale Earnhardt Jr., all things good in NASCAR, fighting off and resisting Kyle Busch, the prince of darkness, with laps to go. Soon, out of nowhere came Kevin Harvick who had been running the fastest laps. Earnhardt was out in front, but not for long. His car was getting used up, while the #29 Budweiser Chevrolet was red hot, and Kevin Harvick won his second race in a row for Richard Childress racing. Wasn’t NASCAR supposed to be fixing races to try to help Junior?

The good news for Junior nation is that so far, Junior and new crew chief, Steve LeTarte are working very well together with the #88 car flirting with the top 10 all season.

Here’s the top 15 finishers:

1 – Kevin Harvick, #29, Chevrolet
2—Dale Earnhardt Jr., #88, Chevrolet
3—Kyle Busch, #18, Toyota
4—Juan Montoya, #44, Chevrolet
5—Jeff Gordon, #24, Chevrolet
6—Matt Kenseth, #17, Ford
7—Jamie McMurray, #1, Chevrolet
8—David Ragan, #6, Ford
9—Clint Bowyer, #33, Chevrolet
10—Mark Martin, #5, Chevrolet
11—Jimmie Johnson, #48, Chevrolet
12—Denny Hamlin, #11, Toyota
13—Joey Logano, #20, Toyota
14—A.J. Allmendinger, #43, Ford
15—David Reutimann, #00, Toyota

Other finishers: 18th –Carl Edwards, #99; 21st – Greg Biffle; 24th – Jeff Burton #31; 34th – Tony Stewart #14.

Three drivers participated in leeching $205.288 dishonoring NASCAR and insulting the concept of sportsmanship, running just enough laps to pull in the garage claim to have brake problems and collect their purse. The scabs this week are J.J. Yeley, Mike Skinner, and the most persistent loser, Joe Nemechek. The shameless purse snatchers collectively earned $5,502 more not making the investment required of the forty other participants (a few of which normally operate as hacks) attempting to complete the entire race than how much Kevin Harvickwon for the whole race. That the last three places in the standings combined make more than the race winner does seems to be an invitation to attract teams for the wrong motive. Our message to NASCAR will not waver, get the start and park teams out of the garage.

Mike Skinner and Joe Nemechek have had their time to race in Sprint Cup competition. It’s time for them to leave possibly running in the lesser series if capable of running to compete. J.J. Yeley has never proven himself worthy of full-time cup competition and is showing his worthiness to be nonexistent defiling the honor of his sport in his current capacity.

Top Drivers’ Standings

1—Kyle Busch, #18, Toyota
2—Carl Edwards, #99, Ford
3—Jimmie Johnson, #48, Chevrolet
4—Kurt Busch, #22, Dodge
5—Kevin Harvick, #29, Chevrolet
6—Ryan Newman, #39, Chevrolet
7—Juan Montoya, #44, Chevrolet
8—Dale Earnhardt Jr., #88, Chevrolet
9—Matt Kenseth, #17, Ford
10—Mark Martin, #5, Chevrolet
11—Tony Stewart, #14, Chevrolet
12—Jeff Gordon, #24, Chevrolet
13—Paul Menard, #27, Chevrolet
14—A.J. Allmendinger, #43, Ford
15—Kasey Kahne, 4, Toyota

The Sprint Cup Field gets down to more conventional business next weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, one of several 1.5 mile tracks on the circuit. They’ll face their next big technology challenge the following week with their first trip to Talladega, its high banks and 2.66 mile distance. One of the few remaining weeks off follows after that for Easter before moving into the heart of the season. Having the first segment of the short track racing out of the way and a more conventional track next week, NASCAR fans will have a clearer idea what teams are best prepared for the challenges of 2011 before shaking everything up the following week in Talladega.

Orioles -- Welcome Home, 2011, a Year of Hope!!

The Orioles open their 2011 home schedule at Orioles Park at Camden Yards this afternoon after winning their first three games against last year's American League champs, The Tampa Bay Rays. The Orioles only gave up three runs in three games. A little perspective, the O's didn't win their third game until their 19th game on April 25th in 2010.

The Orioles led 3-1 in the 9th Saturday night. It looked like a familiar Orioles' collapse, two runners on, a long fly ball deep to right field, nick Markasis made a brilliant catch, game over, Orioles win.

The Orioles start the season with two projected starters on the DL. Justin Duchscherer was shelved before breaking Spring Training Camp, then readying for Saturday's start on Friday, Brian Matusz developed rib pain and was removed from the start filled in brilliantly by Chris Tillman who no hit the Rays for six strong innings removed with a ptich count limit.  Called up before even starting the AAA season in Norfolk, Zachary Britton pitched his first major league game giving up one run in six innings.

Baltimore awaits the new firepower on offense: shortstop - J.J. Hardy, first baseman - Derrek Lee. third baseman - Mark Reynolds and designated hitter - Vladimir Guerrero.

The ballpark has undergone more renovations including replacing more seats wider with better viewing angles, a variety of special accomodations including part of the club area being converted into an open air cafe over looking the field, and a new concessionaire promising an enhanced menu while keeping old familiar Boog's Barbeque.

Buck Showalter has expectations raised after the Orioles playing almost historically poor ball earlier in the season, playing the best ball in the AL East during the last two months of the season.

The offense looks intimidating. The Orioles will go as far as their young rotation anchored by veteran, Jeremy Guthrie can take them.

A winning season for the first time since 1997 looks like a real possibility. They're already three games up in their division!

Geraldo -- Live from Libya

Oh boy! Who wouldn't have seen this coming. Geraldo Rivera has taken his roll as "senior war correspondent" to travel to Libya and imbed with the Libyan "who the heck are they, really?" rebels while under direct gun fire pressumably Momar Gadafhi's thugs. It might be hard to describe somebody dancing around dodging flying bullets as being over-dramatic -- let's just say it's "vintage Geraldo."  Nevertheless, through it all, he attempts to opine to the maximum extent possible editorializing far more than reporting. He's inviting his audience to ask questions through Fox News HQ via Twitter.

Somehow, it seemed like an act of Divine justice the last time he was reporting from the Gulf Coast during an approaching hurricane and getting clobbered by wave while yapping on camera. The romanticizing Latinos can do no wrong is, if nothing else, quite a showman (or showboat).

One American Burns a Book; Thousands of Muslims Riot and Kill

Muslims Kill and Riot in Response to Florida Pastor who Burned a Koran

WARNING: WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ COULD BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR LIFE IN THE PRESENCE OF ARMED RADICAL MUSLIMS AND COULD RESULT IN YOU BEING CHARGED A BIGOT, A FUNDAMENTALIST EXTREMIST, OR ULTRA RIGHT WING HATER SIMPLY FOR CONSIDERING.

How would an American react even if steeped in extreme Fundamentalist Christianity or true followers of the most hateful ultra-right talk show flamethrowers like Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, or Alex Jones if there were a news report showing a small Islamic congregation burning Bibles?

Don’t Blame Extreme, Very Extreme Christian Fundamentalists – Blame Islam.

For a little bit of context consider this. While reading this remember an "artist" presented a work called "Piss Christ" in 1987. the work of photographer, Andres Seranno, was of a plastic crucifix submerged in a glass container of the artist's urine. His "art" won the Southeastern Center of Contemporary Art's "Award in Visual Arts" funded by US taxpayers through the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA.)  The center is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

This horrible expression certainly ignited plenty of debate, but in few instances made the national news. No riots resulted. Nobody was beaten up or killed. The most violent reaction was people calling talk shows in sheer disgust. Somehow, "Piss Christ" is every bit as bad or even worse than the notion of a Koran being burned in protest. Shall we come up with more examples of Christ images being defiled, Synagogues vandalized or destroyed, or American flags burned?

Do Moslems have some dispensation allowing them to kill, injure, and destroy when something hurts their feelings concerning their faith?

For those who don’t think there’s a serious problem endemic in Muslim Society, how Muslims are responding to the act of a extreme radical fundamentalist preacher in Florida, proves otherwise among thousands of Afghan Muslims who’ve resorted to murder and violence in response to behavior which regardless how detestable is legal expression of protest and free speech in our society. Given the hundreds, well truthfully thousands of instances where anti-Western mobs have desecrated Bibles, burned American flags, and destroyed just about anything they can find that represents Judaism, and the typical reaction in the west is little more than verbal outrage, we can surely see how on a comparative basis our culture is far more civilized and moral than theirs. There was also the case of the Danish cartoonist who issued a small number of cartoons, which would have been just run of the mill political cartoons if targeted against any party besides Muslims that created riots through out the West in Muslim communities. The Media and politicians got on their high horses condemning these cartoons while had the cartoons been directed at Christians or politicians, it would have just been routine. The Islamic press is full of out rightly hateful, racist and bigoted cartoons directed at Jews, Christians and Western leaders. That a cartoon of a pregnant Condoleezza Rice carrying a monkey as a fetus drew nothing other than ho-hums in our culture.

There will be attempts to equate the Florida church with being a Christian version of the Taliban or perhaps to associate them in a broader context that would include the infamous Westboro Baptist Church. That would not be a fair assessment either. The Westboro Baptist Church is clearly a bastardization of the Church. It’s a hate group which willfully inflicts pain on suffering citizens for who they are not what they believe. That they hate homosexuals and taunt grieving families puts them in the rarest form of extremism found in the United States except for Moslem Jihadists – as in the murder of a Military Recruiter and the Fort Hood Massacre. The Westboro freaks are universally condemned in society.

The small Florida church run by Pastor Terry Jones is called the Dove World Outreach Center. Anti-Islamic sermons are commonplace for a church with a congregation of approximately fifty families. Talk show demagogue, Glenn Beck, similarly has been attempting to demonstrate that Islam is the evil converse of Christianity and the warnings of the Book of Revelation and depiction of the anti-Christ and final struggle is reversed in Islam as though the 12th Iman is really the anti-Christ. There are some rather extreme anti-Islamic notions among the ultra right wing and extreme fundamentalists. But unlike the psychotic Beck who has thousands of viewers, Jones only represents are very small fringe group. How is he any more extreme than perhaps Jeremiah Wright or Louis Farrakhan? Do they get a “mulligan” because they attack traditional American religion?

There was one horrible case of non-Islamic terror in the United States, the Oklahoma City bombings conducted by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. In an attempt to relativize Islamic terrorism, the Liberal establishment and their news media cohorts attempt to argue that this, the second worst episode of terrorism on American soil, were Christians after all. Maybe they had some contact with the Christian Church but their hateful acts were not justified as an expression of their faith. They expressed nothing like “Allah Akbar” – there were no expressions of in the name of God or Jesus. These were two guys totally out of sorts with the Christian religion. They represent no movement – not even that expressed by the most extreme talk show barkers like Alex Jones.

Again we do not agree with the behavior of the Florida Church; however, it is not a matter of bigotry taking issue with another religion. Part of freedom of religion is the freedom to challenge religious doctrine whether that of the majority of Americans or views of smaller minorities or even cults. The open discussion of religion, examining various religions’ holy texts, and what cultural practices evolve out of those religions is all valid expression of speech and intellectual pursuit.

As such, there is nothing wrong with being critical of Islam. In fact, there is nothing wrong with warning others that maybe this is a form of belief others should be encouraged to view very carefully.

The truth is many of the freedoms Americans hold dear are explicitly forbidden in the text of The Koran. The Koran mandates in detail how a person should worship, what a person should eat and wear. Islam has very specific language on how believers must manage their financial affairs. Rules are established for just about every facet of life. Search through the Koran and see how often the word “punish” is used, for instance.

We hear it said that Islam is a religion of peace. Oh really?

The Koran gets darker and more punitive the further along one reads the text. Western intellectuals again try to sort to relativism. Well, yes the Koran has contradictions by so do the Old and New Testaments. The books of the Bible reflect the holy inspiration of numerous figures, but the Koran is the work of one man, Mohammed. Islamic teaching speaks of subjugation, that what contradictions in the text are resolved by that which is written later in the text. Whatever text is newer is considered correct.

Constitutional application: Americans cannot prohibit others from practicing the religion of Islam. No one can be prohibited from any of the benefits enjoyed by others because one is a member of the Muslim faith. Muslims are free to openly express and practice their religion. They are likewise responsible for their own behavior and enjoy no special treatment, accommodation nor are they exempt from anything any other citizen is responsible for doing as a privilege of their faith.

Non-Muslims are free to criticize the Koran and what is written in it without reservation. If in fact a critical perspective directed toward other beliefs are somehow not directed toward Islam, that’s not responsible.

Anti-Islamic bigotry is not that one things the Islamic teaching are abhorrent, but the restriction of a person’s pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness, the denial of one’s civil rights, singling out and subjecting Muslims to special treatment without clearly defined just cause is not tolerated.

How do Americans react when we see images of Jesus desecrated or the American flag burned? If there were a huge demonstration in Iran, for instance, where protesters burned the American flag, hung Jews and Christians in effigy, and attacked other things we hold sacred how do we respond?

Americans don’t target Islamic facilities and organize load and angry protests in front of their establishments. We don’t hear cries of “Kill the infidel Muslims.” We might hear some talk show hosts speak angrily of such Islamic protests. Some of their activity might make the news, but if it is it is so sugarcoated.

We accept that even the most vile and hurtful forms of protest are permissible. Laws to prohibit burning the American flag seldom go anywhere. To the horror of most Americans the Supreme Court even supported 9-1 the right of the cursed Westboro creeps to engage in their hateful conduct.

While most of us would seriously disagree with burning the Koran or fear the consequences, doing so is an absolutely legitimate form of protest, and if folks want to release some anger based on the waves of hatred, the constant ridicule of our society, the thousands of people killed by terrorists, the thought of Americans being subjected to cruel murder while Islamic beasts shout “Allah Akbar, that’s a fundamental American right.

Through out history, there have been thousands of corrupt governments. There have been plenty of hateful political ideologies be it communism, fascism, or other forms of totalitarianism, or oppressive theocracies. Of the many religions that have surfaced through out history, is it likely that there are some absolutely abhorrent religions?

We allow Americans to profess communism, but no one goes nuts when people criticize communism. Why do the elites go so nuts when people criticize Islam?

Some times, the answer is quite simple. We’re right. They’re wrong. The Florida Preacher isn’t responsible for the bloody protests but if we look at the behavior of recent protests in Wisconsin, we can see that the angry mob can surface in this country in response to things some Americans don’t like – so we’re not immune.

The action of the Florida’s Terry Jones and his congregants is being pushed way out of proportion. Let us speak out against their over reaction, but defend their right to be idiots. What’s really at issue is the extremism present in the Islamic world where people are murdered, beheaded and beaten and property destroyed on a wide scale basis whenever the right explosive incident occurs that offends some aspect of their mean-spirited sense of religion.

Let’s be honest, there is something fundamentally wrong with Islam. Islam is the uniting ideology behind the most dangerous and destructive forces active in the world today. More innocent people are being killed in the name of Allah than for any other philosophy, religion, political system, or way of life anywhere else in the war.
We must stop the “hush-hush – we can’t criticize Islam” and start asking some very tough questions. If the Islamic faith is one of peace, somebody needs to step forward and prove it – show definitely what the real truth of Islam is and why that interpretation is truly the correct application of Islamic doctrine.

It’s very difficult of speaking of doing what could be very good things like spreading the message of Jesus Christ, the teachings of Buddha, the Wisdom of Moses, the common sense of Confucius in the Islamic world where simply practicing Islam the wrong way can result in harsh punishment and daring to convert to another religion in countries the United States supports can result in death.

When one considers the wisdom of almost every single religion in the world and compares it to Islam, Christians, Buddhists, Jews, Confucians, and others don’t need to change their beliefs to accommodate Islam, those who suffer from Islamic oppression should be set free and these other great faiths could be just the ticket. Most belief systems promote the beauty of life. Islam glorifies death and martyrdom.

Outside of Islam, where are there such things as “honor killings.”

When it comes to choosing sides who is more guilty Terry Jones and crew or the rioting murderous Muslims, if forced to chose one or another, we chose against the Muslims.

We rest our case. Pass the matches.

Obama Kool-Aid, Paul Krugman, Because I Say So

Elitism sucks. Once upon a time, the law was whatever the king said it was. Of course there are sleazy dictators and unscrupulous potentates who still uphold such notions and the consequence of speaking the truth can be lethal. Of course there are those who are just the messenger -- don't blame them, they speak for a higher power, but if you don't do as they say because they speak for Allah or some bizarre evil distortion of God, you'll wind up dead too.  Elitism rules the mainstream media too as its number one source, The New York Times claims to cover "all the news that's fit to print." Of course who decides what's fit to print. The message is, this is what's to print BECAUSE WE SAY SO.

Like a corrupt kingdom or religion, the New York Times has its own psycho-disciples, who spread the creed not just presenting what they say is fit for our consumption, but who is right and who is wrong and exactly how the huddled masses are supposed to feel about their edicts. It takes little time before their most mighty mouthpieces and arbitrators of all that's fit, Maurine Dodd the erudite naysayer and ultra bitch of Paul Krugman, the fellow who's so big a mere chip on his shoulder isn't good enough, he requires a fine California sequoia for that purpose.

We, of course, are just a bunch of average Joe's, like the fictional Los Angeles detective, Joe Friday from Dragnet, his credo was, "The fact's, ma'am, just the facts." Is that too much to ask.

What American couldn't be outraged, angry, and scared by the horrible massacre where innocent citizens gathered and were murdered, congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords was shot, outside a Safeway in Tucson, Arizona?

The story was just beginning to unfold through out the news media, but within minutes of the report, there was Paul Krugman, the ominsicient seer, "it is because I say so," no time to gather facts, blaming the incident on rightwingers inflammatory speech being the cause suggesting that some whacked out, right wing extremist pulled the trigger. The edict hath been declared from high atop the great Ivory Tower of Wisdom, well maybe the gaudy bankrupt New York Times headquarters. okay truth be told, some grumpy old dork sitting at a computer keyboard. Quickly, the lower barkers started to yip from MSNBC to NPR. Quickly the facts piled up and their template simply didn't fit, but did they correct their error, hardly, they just barked louder and louder.

Meanwhile, their compatriots accused the other side of being Nazis, baby killers, racists, and just about any other label they could dream up. When it comes to inflammatory rhetoric and hate speech, what would they have to say about the union thugs and the spineless Wisconsin Democrats who fled the state, abandoning their jobs and resposibilities, screaming in heated hostile rants full of personal attacks and threats? If hate speech and inflammatory rhetoric is so awful doesn't the Wisconsin situation count?  Nope, it doesn't fit, but if the Republicans tasked with trying to save the state from financial offered the slightest criticism of their adversaries -- look out!!

The bubbling hot domestic issue right now is economy. Would not one want to know how an Ivy League educated professor at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University hired to write substantial, highly informed column for the New York Times assesses such economic matters as the Federal Government's massive debt, should not us lowly subjects hang on his ever word?

He thinks so.

Normal folks and some lesser economists see higher gas prices, a huge debt with a government unwilling to reel it in, uncertainty on how the Arab world's chaos could affect fuel costs, how might the Japanese mess destabilize the world's markets, what will the impact of "Obama-care" and escalating health costs do, and how much more regulation and government restrictions further choke financial growth. This issues seem real and very threating. Some are very quantifiable. The world's economic state of 2011 does not provide a good climate for investment, hiring, and expansion.

Paul Krugman doesn't think so.

Things aren't bad. It's those horrible people who want to blame everything on Obama. Based on earlier columns he's written along with the wicked witch or is it blabbering bitch of the Ivort Tower, Maurine Dowd, they know what those people are all about -- THEY'RE HATERS, THEY'RE BIGOTS. They're trying to scare everybody and have tried to make that noble and nice Barack Obama the scapegoat. His opinion is Obama skeptics are flawed human beings whose judgment is so clouded with prejudice, one need not even be able to repeat what their point was, Krugman can simply dismiss it as out of hand. They're not Nobel Prize winners. they're just low life yokels they don't even have the stature to respond, because in the Land of the Ivory Tower, they'd have their tongues cut our to spare the impressionable masses the temptation of exploring notions that counter their edicts. The Empiror Obama is just and wise. The Empiror would never mislead the public and the Empiror would never bee seen in public without his luxurious clothes on. The public cannot believe what their lying eyes tell them. The Empiror is a man of exceptional style in splendorous fine adorments from head-to-toe. Yes, as messenger for the thrown, we should all heed,

"All This Stuff About Uncertainty is a Myth Made Up to Blame Unemployment on Obama."

Well there you have it. Somehow the little girl who shouted out the Empiror Obama isn't even wearing gym shorts and a Harvard tea shirt is making a lot more sense than Rube Krugman. If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it fall, does it make a sound?  If the New York Times publishes a Paul Krugman column and no one heeds his tale, is it still real news?

While the empiror can't find his tea shirt for his grad school alma matter, maybe Mr. Krugman can at least lend him a Princeton tea shirt.  If Ivy League tea shirts are like the prevailing ideologies articulated by their elites, one size fits all.

Sprint Cup 2011: Race 6 -- Martinsville Update

Bad rubber could be a problem as the Sprint Cup field prepares for tomorrow’s race at Martinsville. The first signs of trouble were noticed during the Camping World Truck practice on Friday. Instead of tires wearing down rubbering the track, little scraps of rubber pealed off the tires creating memories of the 2008 Brickyard and its tire fiasco. Unusual tire wear resulting in the track not building up its rubber membrane will require drivers and their crews to constantly monitor their tire situation as if taking care of the brakes and other mechanical factors aren’t enough at the crammed packed little track. There is no quick solution to this tire fiasco as there was at Bristol.

Here are the top qualifiers for tomorrow’s race.

1- Jamey McMurray, #1, Chevrolet
2- Ryan Newman, #39, Chevrolet
3- Kasey Kahne, #4, Toyota
4- Joey Logano, #20, Toyota
5- Denny Hamlin, #11, Toyota
6- A.J. Allmendinger, #43, Ford
7- Bobby Labonte, #47, Toyota
8- David Reutimann, #00, Toyota
9- Kevin Harvick, #29, Chevrolet
10- Regan Smith, #78, Chevrolet
11- Kyle Busch, #18, Toyota
12- Mark Martin, #5, Chevrolet
13- Brian Vickers, #83, Toyota
14- David Ragan, #6, Ford
15- Clint Bowyer, #33, Chevrolet

From first glance, it’s clearly a good day for Toyota’s with all their top teams except Martin Truex Jr. in the top 15. Truex starts 18th. It’s a tough day for Ford with Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth next in line in 23rd and 24th. Trevor Bayne is in 25th. With Greg Biffle struggling to get his season started is stuck in 33rd. Penske’s two Dodge entries did not fare well either with Kurt Busch in 20th and Brad Keselowski in 22nd. Surely aside from Martin, the Hendrick drivers fall below expectations with Jimmy Johnson in 17th, Jeff Gordon in 21st, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 26th. Tony Stewart’s frustration continues with a 28th position. Jeff Burton who finally had a satisfactory run in California must overcome a 32nd starting spot on his home track to advance.

Dave Blaney interviewed on SpeedTV’s “NASCAR Hub” indicated his team will be racing for the foreseeable future. This column will hold him and Tommy Baldwin to their words. Meanwhile, the following starters are likely freeloaders. Given the tight racing, it would be only just if some sustain ripped off fenders, crashed in side panels, or busted splitters. The leeches start with Michael McDowell in 35th, Joe Nemechek in 37th, Mike Skinner (it’s always someone else’s fault) in 39th now racing for the fraudulent HP racing, and J.J. Yeley in 41st. Additionally, eyes will be on #37 driven by Tony Raines to see if that car parks now being managed by master quitter, Bob Germain. So far this year, Phoenix racing has competed. Landon Cassill drives that entry.
Weather conditions should improve overnight with sunny skies and a 59o temperature when the green flag waves at 1:00 pm rising into the mid 60’s during the race. According to track President, Clay Campbell, on WSLS-TV, NBC, Roanoke, ticket sales are up over last year’s pace but camper bookings are down. Given high gas prices and a very cold March, the ticket sales are encouraging.

Top drivers in the standings beware – burned out brakes, tire trouble, and nasty fender benders can really rearrange teams’ fortunes. This will be a tough weekend on drivers like Greg Biffle who need to improve and does not fare well at Martinsville especially with a poor starting position.

The “paperclip” track has been especially kind to Denny Hamlin in recent years dominating the competition only challenged by Jimmie Johnson. Hamlin needs a strong performance to move toward the elite top 10.

The hot dogs will be dripping with sauerkraut and red dye. The chase for the grandfather clock is on.

.

Sprint Cup 2011: Race 6 -- Martinsville: Hot Dogs, Grandfather Clocks, and Banging Fenders

In 1995, Terry Labonte finished in dead last only completing four laps in the spring race at Martinsville. That looks a lot like a start and park entry, except in 1995 Labonte was running the #5 Rick Hendrick car and there were only 36 cars in the starting line up. Rusty Wallace won a purse of $61,945 which is less than scab entries make today. It was a tough day for Dale Earnhardt who only finished in 29th, 25 laps down.

Fast forward to preparations for the 2011 race, 44 cars are entered for 43 spots. The field on the paperclip shaped half mile track will be crowded when the green flag drops, but soon perennial leeches will pull off the track collect over $80,000 without buying replacement tires or manning a pit crew. One team will load their car in their hauler and head home, not qualifying for competition. That car could be one fully sponsored intending to complete the entire race. If any attention is mentioned about theses despicable freeloaders, Darrell Waltrip or Larry McReynolds will make patronizing comments of support for selfish creeps, washed up drivers, and marginally skilled opportunists whose presence cheapens the sports and spits in the eye of all that true sportsmanship is all about. This is short track racing in NASCAR, 2011 style.

Martinsville is a lovely old short track, a throwback to the early days of NASCAR, an event full of traditions with their jumbo red-dye loaded coleslaw covered hotdogs, grandfather clocks for trophies, and railway track just beyond the stands. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it’s in the middle of nowhere located far from any Interstate Highway off US-220 about halfway between Roanoke, VA and Greensboro, NC, 48 miles to Greensboro, 51 miles to Roanoke, and 131 miles to the NASCAR mother ship in Charlotte. Fans travel a long distance for those bright red hot dogs and some good fender slapping racing. Gas is a wee bit cheaper down in the Virginia hills, mostly under $3.50 a gallon, but these hardy fans spend a lot of hard earned money for a weekend of racing, and they expect the boys on the track to be hard working too. There’s just something fundamentally un-American about freeloading. NASCAR fans are common-sense kind of fellows. Work hard – play hard, earn what you get and get what you earn. Conversation’s as friendly as neighbor talking to neighbor over the backyard fence. What would these fans have to say if they got to talking about a bunch of pinhead investors freeloading off of the money they paid dearly to buy their tickets just showing up and heading home with $80,000? That’s more than most fans make in a whole year. Many of them know somebody who races under the lights on Friday and Saturday nights – guys who save every last time and work night and day just for the joy of racing at their nearest dirt track knowing that some of the fellows with those giant haulers and all that computer stuff started the same way. Jeff Burton’s from close by. He’s from just the other side of the mountain in South Boston, Virginia. The legendary Wood Brothers who’ve been in the sport from the beginning made them all proud winning the Daytona 500.

Martinsville is the kind of track where any kind of NASCAR nonsense especially standouts out. There’s something very pure and basic about a flat old short track, the only one left compared to the modern high banks at Bristol and extra quarter mile affording a super speedway type back stretch at Richmond. Perhaps down where it’s “Howdy neighbor friendly” it’s time to turn back the hands on one of those good old Martinsville grandfather’s clocks.

Cut the starting lineup back to 36 or 37 cars. If a car doesn’t make the field, have a hot dog and go home. Show up early with all your tools, car nice and shiny, helmet on ready to work – a day’s work for a day’s pay. Don’t come around here if you’re not ready to do your part. The whole neighborhood pitches in to build a barn. People do things like the Wood Brothers run a race team. There’s something especially blasphemous about coming to hallowed ground like Martinsville to freeload – are you listening Phil Parsons and Joe Nemechek? How interesting it is to see that Mike Skinner has joined in the gang of racetrack scabs. He had just been interviewed on SpeedTV earlier in the week where he acted like he should have been a real chase type driver but he hardly had a kind word for anyone else in the sport. His lack of success was someone else’s fault.

Jimmie Johnson is damned good at Martinsville. Another Virginia lad, Denny Hamlin, from the Richmond area is especially tough in his home state track. Hamlin needs a good race to get his miserable season in order. If Johnson should win, that will just get the talk of his sixth championship start to become a roar. Dale Earnhardt Jr. who looks rejuvenated in 2011 likes this track.

Qualifying awaits – more later.

Islam is a Religion of Mercy???

So Islam is a religion of mercy?  BALONEY  Just for fun, check how many times the word "punish" is used in their sacred text for which non-believers could be put to death for possessing, The glorious Koran.

Here's the tale of a protest in Afghanistan who the United States liberated from the rotten ultra-Muslim Taliban.  Rumors concerning a Florida preacher who was going to stage a Koran burning protest in anniversary of 9/11 got distorted to Islam believers -- hence the sanction for extreme violence including the slaughter of eight foreigners, some U.N. workers in Mazar-i-Sharif, Aghanistan.

REFERENCE STORY: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/04/01/seven-killed-koran-burning-protest-headquarters-afghanistan/

The politically correct crowd and media say moderate Muslims don't condone such behavior. Let's hope so. However, why do we never hear strong Islamic voices condemning the long list of Muslim atrocities such as the event referenced here, terrorist attacks, "honor" killings, and other acts of lethal violence.

One need look no further than the founder of Islam, Mohammad. He's one of the real bastards of world history for sure. His roll should be defined more in line with Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan surely not Jesus and Buddha.

"Al Qaeda is 100% Run by the Pentagon" - Alex Jones

As if the big scare on Japanese radiation is not enough, the great Texas hate monger is making more explicit some of his most outrageous bizarre propositions -- Al Qaeda is a tool of our Pentagon.  How FUCKING stupid does this sick, sick man think the American public is?  Once again, he appears on Russia's English language television channel to make his case.

Jeez, could it be the Alex Jones is a pawn of Vladmir Putin used to stir up domestic rancor and have the American public at each other's throats chasing down a bunch ob ridiculous claims and false conspiracy theories.

What's most disturbing is that altough only a handful of radio stations are sick enough to give the bigotted subversive demogogue a platform for his nonsense, he is creeping into the conservative movement via the internet largely supported by the radical fringe of Ron Paul supporters.

If this country were truly the police state he reports it to be, the only thing that would be saving him from the firing squad is that he must be seen as a useful idiot to further melt the national intellect.

If there is a more vile figure in American media including the worst of the left like Michael Moore, we're in real trouble.

Carter in Cuba

Carter schmoozing in Cuba

Jimmy Carter is the national disgrace who keeps disgracing US. No former President has usurped the authority of the office he once dishonored with his extreme incompetence than the Jew-hating, Palestinian advocate, former peanut farmer than James Earl Carter. Time after time, Carter has used his status speaking in international venues to undermine the foreign policy and international objectives of the United States particularly on matters of Middle East relationships.

Now, he has taken his intense disloyal conduct to a higher degree travelling to Cuba sucking up to Raul Castro, the murderous acting dictator of the Communist state.

Reference article:
http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/03/28/2138730/carter-in-cuba-for-meetings-with.html

His conduct is a cruel slap in the face to every Cuban-American many of whom fled Cuba in death defying actions to arrive in the land of freedom. The Cuban American community is painfully aware of what their fellow neighbors, relatives, and ancestors have done in the quest of freedom.

We cannot allow a revisionist sentiment to color the history of the murderous deeds of the Castro brothers and their contributions to stirring up rancor through out the hemisphere.

To what degree the Obama administration condones Carter's behavior is not known, but it certainly provides an unneeded distraction at a time when they struggle to competently respond to the turmoil in the Middle East.

The Obama administration's incompetence and naivete reminds us of the misery of the Carter years. Then and now, America turned inward rejecting its roll as the greatest force of good on the planet.

Fear Mongering in the First Degree

Well, well, well, believe this scare monger, and Al Qeada has it's dude working in the Pentagon!  The Japanese radiation is here and killing us. This is Alex Jones and his wicked paranoia demogoguery. These guys are quick to say they are being taken out of context, but no one like Alex Jones and his wimpy shadow Glenn Beck live off of doing the same. So here he is, direct from his own show. We need all rational thinking Americans, progressives and conservatives alike to flood the radio stations who serve as a conduit for this sickness to get rid of this hateful liar immediately.  See for yourself. This is his daily fare. Even Glenn Beck doesn't come close to this level of retchedness.

We will continue to monitor those who lure conservatives off course and demonstrate their dangerous hate rhetoric.

MLB 2011: Season Preview -- Play Ball!!!

2011 Major League Baseball – Preview

When the winter nights were their darkest and the hot stoves blazed, as the winter player auctions settled down, two teams emerged as huge favorites to dominate in 2011, Boston in the American League and Philadelphia in the National League. The Phillies may have come back down to earth, but they could have a historic rotation. The moves that weren’t made are also big stories. The Yankees did not improve their starting rotation settling for a boost in the pen. The Cardinals did not secure a long term deal for perhaps the best player in the game, Albert Pujois.

After years of frustration, Mid-Atlantic baseball appears on the upswing as the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles both look poised to get out of the cellar perhaps headed for winning records in 2011.

The Minnesota Twins and Oakland A’s make it look like small market teams can stand up against the giant war chests of Boston and New York, but with teams playing each team in their division 18 times, they face much weaker opposition than in the American League East. If anyone can determine what kind of voodoo the Major League schedule maker uses to determine when and how often teams play teams outside their division and in interleague play is a mystery to all. A team could face the Red Sox six times or twelve times with no apparent formula that balances it out year to year. Organizational matters are pure chaos for Major League Baseball.

Conversely, one has to wonder if teams like the Kansas City Royals who do have a good farm system or the Pittsburgh Pirates who only recently showed any willingness to invest in quality draft prospects can possibly do to give their fans signs of a bright future. Nowhere does the inequity in baseball finance seem more apparent in Tampa Bay. Here’s a team that has been right in the thick of it with the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, but not only is Tampa-St. Pete a small market, that they play in what looks like a revival tent on the southern tip of St. Petersburg, one would think that Tampa Bay area residents think of baseball more in terms of all the teams that have spring training camps in their area. The team that fought the Texas Rangers for the AL Pennant had to give tickets away to attempt to have a decent crowd on hand when they clinched their playoff berth. With no financial base and limited resources for payroll, four players including one of the league’s top left fielders, Carl Crawford, their closer, their first baseman, and a quality starting pitcher are gone. Such decisions await the Minnesota Twins in the near future.

Three teams are facing ownership calamities; the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Dodgers. While those teams get who has the checkbook straightened out, their programs are in limbo. Additionally, MLB's last round of expansion in 1998 proved a terrible move. The Phoenix Arizona market is certainly worthly of a baseball team. Tampa Bay is now a fine team in a horrible market. Oakland has failed repeatedly to find a stadium deal somewhere in the San Francisco Bay area. Teams that don't have new stadiums in weak markets make contraction once again sound like a great idea. To think there was talk of conracting the Twins and the Montreal Expos. The potential litigation associated with contraction would be enormous, but perhaps the best move would be to identify unstable organizations in large markets like the New York Mets entangled in the Bernie Madoff mess, disolve those teams, and then move in the teams in dead end markets. Returning to 14 teams in each league would also be a huge plus. The 14 teams in the AL versus 16 teams in the NL is ridiculous, but baseball is fixated on having interleague play isolated to two unique schedule blocks another reflection on the lack of organizational intelligence at the highest levels.

What will be the major story lines of baseball in 2011? As always, there will be tremendous talk about the have’s and have-not’s. Teams like Baltimore, Washington, and Florida are teams looking to move up the ladder. Last year was considered by many, the Year of the Pitcher.” Not since the late 60’s and early 70’s has pitching looked so strong remembering Bob Gibson’s 1968 season destroying the National League leading to the mounds being lowered and then in 1973 the American League adopting the designated hitter rule. Perhaps this is what the outcome is of the steroid era being over. Artificial homeruns are gone.

American League East

The Boston Red Sox will rule supreme and could possibly run away with the division if they’re healthy. One of their prime contender’s loss is their gain picking up five tool star, Carl Crawford to patrol left field. Adrian Gonzalez gives them a first rate first baseman who will help solidify the heart of their lineup. Boston’s starting rotation is the best in the American league. Bobby Jinx joins the bullpen after being a superb closer with the White Sox. The Red Sox were contenders in 2010 until injuries took their toll. Should they escape such difficulty this year, they could win their 3rd championship in ten years.

The New York Yankees were supposed to be the team to beat last year, but their starting rotation suddenly looked shabby, Derek Jeter had a bad year, and thus down the stretch the Yankees lost their edge, finished the season a game behind Tampa, and were handled easily by the Twins in the playoffs. The usually free-spending Yankees found the market low on talent in the offseason failing to lure Cliff Lee to join their rotation. C.C. Sabathia is their ace with Phil Hughes next in line but beyond that, starting pitching is a mystery. A.J. Burnett was dreadful last year especially down the stretch, 10-15 with a dreadful 5.26 ERA. The Yankees upgraded their bullpen adding Tampa Bay’s Raphael Soriano who had 45 saves in 48 opportunities and he’ll be a setup man for Mariano Rivera. If the starters can finish seven innings with a lead, it could be lights out. Jorge Posada moves from behind the plate to DH. Russ Martin comes from the Dodgers to be the team’s backstop. The Yankees signed Kevin Millwood, not good enough to stick with the Orioles, to a minor league deal late in Spring Training. If the Yankees can’t get good results out of the 3rd and 4th spot in the rotation, they could fall to 4th place in the division, but the first quality starter that becomes available, the Yankees will attempt a deal. They’re still good enough to be a wild card. It’s difficult to see another divisional foe, the White Sox, Tigers, or Athletics doing better.

The Tampa Bay Rays still have a core of good talent; they lost two from their lineup, an important starter, and their closer. Worse, Carl Crawford, their all-star left field is still in the division going to Boston while their closer, Raphael Soriano is now with the Yankees. Matt Garza takes a 3.91 ERA and 15 wins to the Chicago Cubs along with homerun hitter Carlos Pena. An aged Johnny Damon comes to town to play left field. The most focus, no doubt, will center on their new designated hitter, Manny Ramirez. Were he to restore himself to old form, be happy, and not cause trouble, the Rays could be formidable. If Manny’s just being Manny where his attitude sucks the life out of the clubhouse, the results could be a disaster. The Rays could finish anywhere from first to fifth. To their credit, they have a lot of young talent. Still, they’ve lost a lot. They’ll be more worried about the Orioles catching them than their ability to catch the Yankees and Red Sox.

The Baltimore Orioles are a team on the rise. Adding J.J. Hardy, Mark Reynolds, Derricke Lee, and Vladmir Guerrero should make the Orioles line up rival the best teams in the game. Suddenly, fellows like Nick Markasis, Luke Scott, Matt Wieters, and Adam Jones much better hitting situations. Of course, Brian Roberts as the lead off batter can set the stage for mighty thunder later. However, one of the team’s real questions is will be remain healthy. The Orioles starting rotation is unproven. Veteran Jeremy Guthrie is the #1 starter who can look brilliant at times but is hardly a true #1 starter. Beyond that it’s the kiddy corps. Brian Matusz looked like he was maturing into a fine pitcher in the final stretch of 2010. He’s the lone lefty. Jake Arrieta is not quite as far along but has incredible stuff. Brad Bergesen and Chris Tillman are works in progress with Tillman both the one with the highest ceiling but also needing the most work. Meanwhile, Zack Britten will be down in Norfolk waiting for the phone call. Signed as a bit of an experiment, Justin Duchscherer starts on the DL but could quickly move into spot four or five once healthy. The starters will have a much stronger bullpen to hand off to with pitchers able to fit more into their traditional roles with a good closer, Kevin Gregg. Michael Gonzales, a lefty, and Koji Uehara will serve as setup men; however, with a young staff, it might be the long relievers who make the difference. The Orioles “X” factor could be their manager, Buck Showalter, could be the real difference maker. He too a team headed to well over 100 losses last year to having the best record in the division during the last two months playing Boston, New York, and Tampa Bay frequently. Truthfully, it’s not out of the realm of possibility, this team could finish anywhere from 2nd to 5th.

The Toronto Blue Jays dumped salary and experienced manager, Cito Gaston retired replaced by John Farrell. Gone to the Angels is star centerfielder, Vernon Wells, along with 1st baseman, Lyle Overbay heads to Pittsburgh while two pieces of their bullpen, Kevin Gregg and Jeremy Araccado left for Baltimore. Toronto does develop talent from within, but the losses in production and experience are huge this year. They’ll likely finish last. This does not look like a .500 or better team in the AL East.

American League Central

Many have chosen the Chicago White Sox, but the Twins were darned good last year and are healthier this year. They were the strongest team in the Central last year and eliminated the much favored Yankees from the playoffs with two of their most important players injured gone for half the season, 1st baseman, Justin Morneau and right fielder, Michael Cuddyer.

The White Sox signed free agent Adam Dunn, a free swinging power guy to add some serious swat to their line up. With hopes Jake Peavy fully recovers giving them a deep rotations, the White Sox are built to fight the Twins for the Central. They’ll do so having lost their closer, Jinx, to Boston promoting Matt Thornton to the job.

The Tigers add Victor Martinez to serve primarily as DH to add power to a rather weak scoring lineup. They have a strong starting rotation, but their 2010 offense was not that of acontender.Miguel Cabrera, a true superstar keys the offense having hit 38 homers with 126 RBI's. Beyond that, the Tigers' production was horrible with only three players with double digit home runs, the highest just 15. Besides Cabrera, their next three RBI guys hit 70, 67, and 62. With such a week offense, it's a wonder the team played .500 ball!

Cleveland is in rebuilding mode. They’ve been in rebuilding mode. How difficult it must be for Indians’ fans to see what could be the foundation of an awesome rotation pitching elsewhere with C.C. Sabathia now the ace of the Yankees and Cliff Lee pulling his new teams into the post season. Victor Martinez has now landed in their division. What will happen if Grady Sizemore is healthy? How long will he be around? Cleveland is back to what they were before the Jacobs Field explosion where they were one of the American League’s top teams in the 1990’s – a farm team for the big markets. Between the Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers, it’s little wonder Cleveland fans have such chips on their shoulders.

Kansas City is rated as having one of the top farm systems in baseball. They raise them up and ship them out as witnessed by Zack Greinke headed off to the Milwaukee Brewers. Kansas City is faced with how the current financial structure of baseball leaves small market teams, few smaller than KC, out in the cold.

American League West

Despite not being successful in the Cliff Lee sweepstakes, Texas is still the team to beat off of the franchise’s first ever trip to the World Series. Deep in homegrown talent, Michael Young moves to DH to free up left side spots for younger players. He replaces the veteran presence of Vladmir Guerrero who will DH for the Orioles.

The Oakland Athletics probably play the small small market game better than any other team. Buried in a stadium that was completely mutilated to add seats for the return of the Raiders and unable to get a new stadium deal, the Coliseum is a dreary cavernous stadium not conducive for fan support, but the organization excels at playing “money ball” filling in roll players with home grown talent, rising to a playoff contender frequently. They’re still too young and inexperienced for 2011, but should Texas falter, the A’s could be there.

The Angels add Vernon Wells to add some power and RBI’s to a lineup that had difficulty scoring in 2010. The Anaheim (er uhm Los Angeles) gang is working to get younger with many of the players who helped them win their first World Series and be the toughest team in the west have departed or are showing age.

The Seattle Mariners hired Eric Wedge to lead a gutted team through the rebuilding process. Manager, Don Watkamatsu was dismissed in mid-season last year having totally lost the team with Daren Brown filling out the interim. While the team rebuilds, northwest fans will continue to enjoy the mastery of Icharo Suzuki, a true world class star.

National League East

The Philadelphia Phillies looked unstoppable when they signed Cliff Lee giving them one of the hottest rotations in baseball history. Imagine facing Cliff Lee, second to Roy Halladay with Cole Hamels, Roy Oswalt and Jeff Blanton rounding out the rotation. Just about any one of them would be a number one starter on most teams. On offense, they’ll miss Jayson Werth. Ben Francisco will have to take his place. Their high hopes were lowered with closer Brad Lidge out for the start of the season and his status unknown. Chase Utley is having knee problems and won’t start the season. Placido Palanco reports a twisted left elbow. What looked to be a sure bet in December could look like the mighty Phillies have let the Atlanta Braves burst on the scene.

The Braves continue to rebuild to their once mighty form where they dominated the 1990’s and early 2000’s returning to post season last year. How strange it will seem without manager, Bobby Cox, whose next stop is Cooperstown. Fredi Gonzalez manages a strong rotation and a mixture of old, Chipper Jones, and new, Dan Ugla as a team that should surely be in contention this year.

The Florida Marlins have been one of the most successful teams building their own talent and this will be obvious in 2011 as they build toward finally having their own home, a new stadium where the Orange Bowl one stood next year. They’re not ready yet, but they’re close.

The Washington Nationals could finally break out of the cellar with the addition of Jayson Werth. Adam LaRoche takes over first base. While not quite the homerun hitter Adam Dunn was, LaRoche will be more consistent and better fielder. They’ll have to wait to next year for phenom starter, Stephen Strasburg to anchor their rotation, plus they have some exciting talent nearing the majors coming along. They’ll be nobody’s doormat in 2011.

The New York Mets are a franchise mired in turmoil, their ownership entangled in the Bernie Madoff scandal. Their finances are tied in a knot with many player moves needed. David Wright is their legit superstar. Carlos Beltran has been hampered by injuries the last two years while Jason Bay’s move to the Mets was a disaster last year. The Mets have had serious organizational issues which translate to trouble on the field. Once the ownership issues are stabilized, they can begin the process of rebuilding. New manager, Terry Collins has much to do in his first year.

National League Central

The Milwaukee Brewers are loaded for the post season in 2011 picking up Zack Greinke to anchor their rotation, but he starts on the disabled list. This could be the last hurrah for the Brewers should slugger, Prince Fielder leave at season’s end.

Tony LaRussa and the St. Louis Cardinals won’t escape from talk about whether Albert Pujois will return next year. Adam Wainwright starts on the 60 day DL Still, the Cardinals are a solid, well-run team. They can never be written off.

The Cincinnati Reds made it to the playoffs for the first time in ages in 2010 with a talented young team. They’ll probably fall back a notch as they won’t surprise anyone. If Joey Votto is as hot as he was in 2010 and a couple other players get in the groove, all bets are off. The Reds could top the division.

The Chicago Cubs have a  roster out of balance but made two impact moves to help. The influx of talent from Tampa, Carlos Pena and Matt Garza won’t be enough to bring the Cubs around. Mike Quade seems well-suited to replace Lou Pinella as skipper. The Cubs have much to prove.

The Houston Astros are still in the thick of rebuilding. The golden days of Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio are history. In 2011, fans will look for the signs of a new nucleus emerge.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have not had a winning season since 1992. How old would a young fan from Pittsburgh have to be to remember when they were once a proud franchise?  Pittsburgh produces some of the most incrediby loyal fans for the Steelers, but to most of them, PNC Park is little more than a building on the parking lot for Heinz Field, but behind those walls is one of the loveliest stadiums in the business a long home run to right to the Alleghany River with the Pittsburgh skyline as the backdrop. Now all they need is a team. To say the Pirates are better than last year doesn' t mean much until they are a winning team again. Clint Hurdle takes over as manager and the Bucs will improve but hardly enough to improve in the standings. Perhaps, Hurdle will get some hustle back in the team and draw some fans again.

NL West

The San Francisco Giants are best positioned to win the NL West but keep an eye on the Colorado Rockies. The Giants were not a strong offensive team until something lit their fire in the post season last year. Looking to improve their offense, they’ve added Miguel Tejada at shortstop. This move could back fire. Since the Giants depend on superior pitching adding a possible defensive liability at a crucial position could hurt them. Tejada was definitely losing range during his first tenure in Baltimore. Much time has past since then. They need the big power guy in the middle of their order. They have some moderate power hitters but not the real game breakers. It’s all on the shoulders of their starting pitching and closer, the bearded bad guy, Brian Wilson.

The Colorado Rockies enjoy Coors Field as a hitter’s paradise but a pitcher’s nightmare. Led by Todd Helton, the hitting attack will be sharp with the multitalented Ty Wigginton the first bat off the bench. The pitching staff must keep their opponents from launching rockets into the light Denver atmosphere while the fielders must make contact turn into outs. If the Rockies can make their home field the house of horrors for their opponents, they’ll be around for October baseball.

The Los Angeles Dodgers simply never seem to stablize looking for the right roster to sustain winning ways. Donny “Baseball” Mattingly gets his first managing experience taking over for Joe Torre who retires. The Dodgers are borderline team. A little more plus, they could be good. A little less, they stink. They made no blockbuster moves in the off-season. They go into 2011 appearing a weaker team on paper with starting catcher Russ Martin gone to the Yankees, a solid roll player like Gabe Kapler gone. The Dodgers needs are many. It will be a rough initiation for Don Mattingly.

The San Diego Padres weren’t supposed to be a contender last year but held in the race until the very end of the season. They lost their best offensive weapon, the one huge threat they had, Adrian Gonzales to the Red Sox or possibly lose him to free agency at the end of 2011. Once again, they’re the young team, putting things together, with a bright future, but can they make their pumpkin an elegant carriage again in 2011?

The Arizona Diamondbacks dream is that their team will take on the character of their new manager, Kirk Gibson. They’re a young team. Most of the dead-end veterans who had no place in their future are gone. Now, it’s working in the pieces to form the team of the future that matters.

VCU's Success Shines Light on Towson University's Failures

Shame on Towson University!!!

The Final Four in the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament awaits us. Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) from the Colonial Athletic Conference (CAC) beat Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State, and Kansas, all major conference teams, some considered national powerhouses to get there. George Mason, whose run to the Final Four elevated the CAC and mid-major conferences to a new, high degree of prestige won their first round challenge then were eliminated by #1 seed, Ohio State. Old Dominion also made the field as a #9 seed losing to Butler, a Final Four team, a #8 seed.

The implication is clear; the Colonial Athletic Conference is poised to be a major competitor in NCAA Men’s Basketball, but not for Towson University, Maryland’s second largest state university close to the same size as George Mason and Virginia Commonwealth. In the new millennium, Towson athletics is a study in failure aside from lacrosse where they’re hardly knocking down any walls. While fielding a competitive football program is a huge investment mindful that this conference contributed Joe Flacco from University of Delaware, quality basketball should be within Towson’s reach. How many other states’ second largest schools or schools with much smaller enrollments thrive in NCAA basketball?

The Towson Tigers did not win a single conference game this past season. Their record was 4-26 overall trailing William and Mary 4-14, 10-22 overall showing Towson pitifully buried in the cellar.

Team Record
2009-2010 8th, 6-12, 10-21 overall
2008-2009 10th, 5-13, 12-22 overall
2007-2008 9th, 7-11, 13-18 overall

Coach Pat Kennedy quit at season’s end after having been sought to be a leader who could advance the team to greater heights when hired for the 2004 season. Kennedy’s biggest contribution was stewarding Florida State into the ACC, coaching there from 1986-1997 with a total 202-131 record, much of it in the highly competitive ACC. Since then, his success hard to find, struggling at DePaul, a solid Big East team from 1997-2002, 67-85, and then Montana, a weak program, 2002-2004, 23-35 record.

The women’s program is not much better for this past season, a 3-14 conference record and 9-21 overall result.

A snapshot of their football program shows a team with only one win, not in conference for the 2010 season. What can be said of one program can be said of the other. Even in lacrosse which had once been a Towson stronghold, they’re buried far from tournament shape, with a 7-8 record.

Towson University is capable of being a competitive team in basketball and one of the nation’s top programs in lacrosse. Looking at the mother ship, University of Maryland, College Park whose football and basketball programs have struggled in recent years, certainly both schools’ struggles surely points to commitment at the highest level of the state university system. Since Maryland’s winning the National Championship in basketball, 2002, they’d reach the Sweet 16 the following year having never advanced past the tournament’s second round since. Of those nine seasons, Maryland made five NCCA appearances, three NIT appearances with little distinction. Their high points were winning the ACC tournament in 2004 and being the regular season champ in 2010. The 2010-2011 season marks a horrible embarrassment for the program not even achieving an NIT invitation after a late season total collapse.

In football, the Ralph Friedgen era began with great hopes for the 2001 season leaping out of the long run of mediocrity winning the ACC championship to reach the Orange Bowl. The following year, 2002, Maryland smashed Tennessee in the Peach Bowl. Since then, Maryland has made its share of lesser bowls but certainly has fallen below expectations.

In the Maryland system, College Park rules and the rest of the campuses are at each other’s throats for what remains. This is especially true in Division One athletics. The Baltimore area has five universities, four which participate in basketball, football far more limited. Towson, Morgan State, Coppin State, and UMBC are all Division One for basketball. Only Towson and Morgan field football teams, but UMBC boasts a dynasty in chess!

Additionally, these schools compete with Loyola Baltimore, a strong MEAC team coached by popular former Gary Williams’ assistant, Jimmy Patsos. The Washington DC area adds Georgetown, American University, George Mason, and George Washington University all competing for local talent with Philadelphia only 100 miles up I-95 to the northeast.

The Baltimore-Washington area is fertile ground for top basketball prospects scouted by top schools nationwide. With significant competition for talent, building a first rate program represents tremendous dedication, but the Baltimore-Washington area is not unique and certainly a state’s second largest university deserves far more commitment than state leadership affords a superb university whose story would be much better known nationwide if it had an athletics program that made headlines.

Today, the reputation of Maryland sports is poor. College Park dumped Ralph Friedgen and Gary Williams’ is dealing with his greatest disgrace during his distinguished tenure at College Park. While #1 gets the bulk of the attention, #2 is a cruel joke that shows nothing to be proud of in basketball and football. They’re an embarrassment, but since Towson seldom has gotten much attention for long standing mediocrity, few notice. Still, they were worthy of a limited radio schedule for the 2009-2010 schedule on Baltimore’s flamethrower AM radio station, WBAL.

Located in the affluent Towson/Northern Baltimore County area, Towson could be a fabulous cite for top sports. Plans move forward for a new arena, a must to be on the same level as George Mason and other CAC schools. We anxiously wait to see who is named the next coach and if they find a proven motivator who can build a program from nothing.

No doubt, many will say how can schools afford to upgrade athletic programs when funds are scarce; the economy is bad, and all the usual excuses. Good sports programs, particularly basketball can bring economic benefits to their schools. That a school is seen as a top athletic school where kids would want to wear school jerseys and colors not only helps the school enjoy some marketing funds but also stirs up a buzz that could attract more students to chose a school like Towson over other universities. Sports are one element of creating a stimulating quality college life.

Our message, while we want to see University of Maryland be a school mentioned in the same breath as University of North Carolina and Duke in basketball as they were at the turn of the century and their football team should be challenging for the ACC football title consistently, Towson University must become one of the jewels of the Colonial Athletic Conference. This is within Towson’s reach. Maryland has only one school in the conference while Virginia has five. Okay Virginia’s a larger state than Maryland but supporting Old Dominion, William & Mary, VCU, James Madison, and George Mason is a far more substantial commitment than what Maryland’s devoting to its schools.

Larger problems loom than simply the state’s academic operations that hurt athletics. Certainly, it’s hard to justify FIVE universities in the Baltimore area: Towson, Morgan State, Coppin State, University of Baltimore, and UMBC. Certainly, Towson and UMBC are thriving schools. Morgan deserves its standing as one of the nation’s top black universities, but certainly it would make sense to fold Coppin State within its structure as it would University of Baltimore into either Towson or University of Maryland. On the Eastern Shore Salisbury and University of Maryland, Eastern Shore are just 12 miles apart. Consolidating such resources makes sense. Greater focus could mean better athletic programs where schools like Salisbury and Frostburg could tear up their conferences. While St. Mary’s simply has never shown any interest in athletics and that’s fine, who knows what kind of sleeper Bowie State could be in Washington DC’s eastern suburbs.

It starts at the top. Bold thinking is required. Get University of Maryland where ESPN can’t avoid talking about them. Get Towson to where they’ll be there soon. Who knows what the rest of the system could produce if a spirit of winning sweeps the system?

Right now, it appears that try not to loose would be a step forward rather than the indifference the seems to emulate from Annapolis to the highest ranks of the University System, but the time it reaches the Athletic director’s level and coaching staffs, the damage is done.

Go Tigers!!!!
