Considering all the Bull, What's So Bad About Being Judgmental?

Have you heard enough of the “who are we to judge” jive? First what about Michael Jackson’s conduct for the past quarter century – sleeping with children, the cosmetic mutilations, and other inexplicable behaviors? Can we really accept being told “it’s just a private matter” considering the horrible circumstances involving Steve McNair’s murder which appears to be a murder/suicide committed by his 20 year old girlfriend? McNair was a married man with four sons the oldest of which was 16 years old. While Steve McNair has done many good things and it would be foolish to condemn him outright, his marital infidelity will cause ever lasting harm for his surviving family – his wife to whom he promised to be faithful and four boys who loved their father and saw him as their ultimate roll model. It’s crazy some folk’s morality is such that they deplore others who speak out about unacceptable behavior by people in the public spotlight. Take a look at Governor Mark Sanford in South Carolina, a man who spoke of traditional values and championed high standards of morality who has acted like a fickle teenager since his tryst was revealed.

Can we at least agree on one thing that’s absolutely stupid, the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain?

It’s that time of year again. Each summer in Pamplona, Spain as part of the town’s observance of the nine day Festival of San Fermin, thousands of people flock the streets as bulls are let loose to give chase through the quaint old world streets of the historic Spanish town. The festival lasts from July 6th to 14th each year with the first Bull Run on July 7th. Remarkably, for the last century since 1910, only fourteen people have been killed most from Navarre, Spain, but in 1995, Matthew Peter Tassio, a former Illinois resident was killed.

Participants simply have to be eighteen years old, be sober, and show up on time to literally run for their lives.

We’re not even going to scratch the surface trying to explore the insane thrill seeking psychology that would allow fellows to engage in such idiotic behavior, but the event has long been romanticized getting a tremendous boost from American Author, Ernest Hemmingway who wrote with his literary command about this atrocity.

Can we not all agree the running of the bulls in Pamplona and elsewhere in Spain, Mexico, and even France is just plain dumb? If we can’t, WHY NOT?
